Apple pie for lunch

'I'm alright jack' came home from the other day from the amazing shop Wegmans with an Apple pie.
A whole BIG Apple pie.

Now I know his dad is obsessed with desserts (especially applepies) as we cannot leave a restaurant without him having his pudding, the man has such a sweet tooth.
While on holiday with us in DC a few years back he even ordered apple pie for lunch, no sandwich or soup beforehand just an applepie!

So when 'I'm alright" turned up with an whole applepie a I knew I was in trouble, not only is he turning into his father day by day which isn't so bad, but he was also leaving for a few days with work, now thats no fair....
Applepie in the fridge + lonely girl at home alone, yup ate the lot!

Apple pie

We'd better get some applepie in the fridge ready as his parents are out in two weeks.

And I guess it wouldn't hurt us all to have applepie for lunch once in a while, who makes the rules?

Wrong Place Wrong time!

Oh I'm laughing so much at this moment, but I wasn't this morning!

I headed out this morning to a Flea market, hee hee, I was thinking old typrwriters, bits of fabric, letterpress stuff, oh you know the dream of a perfect junk sale where you find everything you want and even some wonderful kitchen kitch.

THIS WAS NOT THAT PLACE - (I'm yet to find that place anyhow) but this was SO far from it it was unbelieveable, when I arrived I wondered why it was an all boys thing.....they were all wearing caps.....they were all looking at me in my skinny jeans and boots and little cropt jacket, designer shades & handbag....I was looking good today!

I was looking good....at 'Hamfest and a fleamarket' advertised in freetime for Rochester, wanna know what hamfest is...its a Amateur Radio & computer show...the Fleamarket was selling bits of computer and Radio's and batteries and things I don't even know what....and I paid ten dollars to get in for a five minute walk around and a few stares!

Did I feel stupid, yup! but I'm laughing now.....must research things more!
Silly me!

Man & Fire?

BBQ fever....okay its hotting up I'm sooo excited! The community pool has now officially opened although I think it will take a while before I dip my toes in (as one who wears cardigans over her bikini's in Florida!)

But thats not the reason for the blog, the reason for my blog is we've got a friend over next week and we're renting a house on Lake Ontario that backs out onto the shore.
It's for him and 'I'm alright Jack' to fish from, and when we were chatting about the trip I said, I will need to do a big food shop to take with us, he says 'yeah don't go mad I'll just BBQ every night'
Come again?
What is it with men and BBQ's, ME MAN I LIKE FIRE!
How come he never cooks indoors?

His friend who has also moved over to the States recently with his 3 kids under five....was here on his own before his wife & kids turned up so he had to kit out the rental house, do you know what the first big item he bought? ...not a bed/ sofa/ table....a BBQ!

hey I'm not complaining anything for a easy life....but it is a little weird don't you think????

Anyone who knows me will find this funny, when 'I'm alright Jack' got over here the first large item he purchased??? A dinghy, oars & lifevests!!! oh me oh my the joys of a fishing obsessed man!

Anyway off to the billy bass pro shop (will show you picks Tuesday).....we should have shares in that place!

Falls Smalls!

Once of the first places we wanted to visit when we got here was Niagara falls.

We'd seen the Victoria falls in Zambia and were absolutely in love with them, we were in South Africa last year in February which semed to be the most amazing time to go the falls, they were full and roaring and we stayed in the Zambiezi Sun Hotel (spell?) & sunbathed while Zebra walked through the grounds, the hotel is right on the entrance to the falls, grab you shorts, ditch the camera and head to the Smoke that thunders, we also took a speed boat ride in the rapids below the falls and a boat ride above the falls and saw hippos basking in the water amazing.
It was amazing I cannot begin to tell you what a fab holiday and one I will recommend for years to come, I can't wait to go back.
I can't seem to upload my SA photo's & they don't do it justice as it was so wet you couldn't take your camera really...you could get right alongside the falls so you felt like you were right in them, and by the end of the walk you were completely wet whether you were wearing a yellow pack a mac or not.

Now when we arrived at the falls in Niagara (US side) I was shocked, are they smaller than the ones in south africa? or is it that its so built up around it, it just feels different, maybe its because you can't get within it, or that its more commercialised, proper car parks, paths, walkways, whereas in Victoria there's definate heath and safety issues!
I don't know but as I've now seen them both I think the Victoria falls are so much more amazing (I'll try & post the SA photo's in another post)

I'm still going to go back and try the boat ride as I want to be amazed by these falls, will keep you posted.

Don't get me wrong they are still a sight to see have a look for yourself:

It's Anthropologie

Shopping in New York is great IF you have money!, if you have some money and want to be careful its agony.

My sisters spent well, the Pound to the Dollar is good at the moment they got alot for their Pounds, I on the other hand am not earning YET and 'I'm alright jack' is now earning $'s so although it's really cheap for what we get in the UK its not when your earning $, I was good Honest Jack!

Goodish.

Anthropologie - MY FAVOURITE STORE
Luckily for 'i'm alright Jack' I was so facinated with the decor at the shop in NY that I spent my time taking photographs rather than spending, my Sisters and Mum didn't find it a problem though!
We all left with a bag....some two....some three!!
Take a look at the decor...

bluebird

oh shop or look at decor

Mr. Wegmans is my hero

I have decided to dedicate this post to WEGMANS, I have made reference to this shop in other post so now it is time to give you the low down.

It's a supermarket, a supermarket you say, oh not just any supermarket THE superpermarket to end all supermarket, Harods foodcourt for the masses, the Fortnum and Mason for the general bod!

It is the most amazing supermarket I have ever been in and here are the reasons why:

It has a Sushi bar, yup a sushi bar you heard me correctly!
A coffee shop
A bread counter HUGE
A Chocalate shop
A restaurant (not just a crappy snack bar!)
A Cake stand where they sell the most delicios Macaroons, which you can buy then take to the Tea bar and enjoy with any kind of tea (not in a bag) loose tea from every country in every colour, black, white, red, herbal (or erbal if your american, love that) and if you want you can take a few pounds back home (mum) and infuse it in your little tea pot! ooh I miss those Rooibosh evenings at Chez Ma et Pa.
It also has a help yourself fast food which is great like a salad bar (which they also have) but with chinese and indian food, all kinds and you pop it all in box - and they even have fortune cookies and chopsticks if you want!
They also have fresh prepared food, with all the cooking instructions printed out on a label.
Flower shop with like 8 staff to help and the bouquets are just fabulous, I'd like to receive one - are you reading this Jack?

I cannot go on anymore as it will not do it justice you'll have to see it for yourself but i can quite happily while away a few hours every other day in there, i think the staff my start to know me!
And the staff, nowhere have I met such happy staff there must be happy drugs in the staff canteen cause these guys are nice, and happy and even the guys stocking the milk refridgerators from behind will smile if you scream when getting your milk...yep i didn't realise there were people behind there!

Mr Wegman if my heart wasn't already taken by 'I'm alright Jack' it would be yours, thanks for the greatest foodshop in the world.

Can't wait to show Dad!

macaroons!

Well you may be aware from my profile that I love MACAROONS & macarons, so since I arrived here and have been sans job, my daily life is slightly different:

Get up.....whenever
Shower or shower later
Do hair and Make up
Play on computer -
Check my email,
my facebook occasionally,
add some photo's to my flickr account see if anyone digs me!
lets hope that works!
Then I may enter the basement of doom to do some washing...or some ironing.
I may go shopping to Wegmans -buy macaroons, will tell you more about Wegmans soon!
I may venture out to take some photos to download onto my flickr account.
AND i may do some cooking or baking! which I love.

and so to the reason for me popping by to post a blog......

Macaroon obsession, I have been serching for a recipe for these bad boys for weeks since we tried the ones in W,
all the recipes I found envolved mixers (don't own one) and involve loads of ingredients, loads of sugar even salt?
and me being me and wanting the best healthiest option for my sporty man found THE RECIPE! on grouprecipes, (i'm annoyed I didn't write the ladies name down as I now can't seem to find it)

1 can condensed milk (sweetened)
Dessicated coconut

the mix

THE END!
all you do is mix up put on a baking sheet onto a baking tray leave 2inches between each round ball and squish down.

handfuls

Pop in the over @ 180c/350F for aprox 10mins ( just watch and wait for the edges to be brown and the centres to look like they have solidified)

mmm the edges are the best sticky swee & chewy

mmm may need to work on the presentation!

Get out let cool down and eat! I'm alright Jack loved them! I'm making some more tonight for i'm alright Jack to take to work we'll see how they go down!!
Also gonna test how they freeze?/ how long they last and are still tasty etc etc xx

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

Taste just like the ones I buy from Wegmans!

An Apple in the BIG APPLE

Here is a little more of my trip to NY NY before I landed here in Rochester.

Sometimes I think taking a taxi ride in NY can give you a real impression of the place before you start treking around by foot and boy do you do some waking in New York, those Sex and the City girls would have major blisters and bunions if they really did wear Monolo's every day! oh to own a pair!

So pumps were my shoe of choice to trek the streets of NY, my sister wore a slight heel, good on you girl! though they weren't made with Mr Blahnik's fair hands unfortunately, he's on my wish list, not him himself his shoes anyhow I digress....

These are some of the Taxi views....

follow that cab

Having a well needed Apple in the BIG APPLE after a morning at the Rockafeller centre.
an apple in the big apple

We decided to go up The Rock instead of the Empire State Building to see NY, Mum had seen a program about it and how you could see more of The Park from the view and although it's lower than the Empire State the good thing was you could also see the Empire State ...

empire state building

We had attempted to visit the day before but had been evacuated, scary as we didn't know what to do, we ended up in the underground shopping area of the centre and we walked and walked to find an exit and ended up miles away from the Rock, so we went back to get our money back and try again another day.
The weird thing was when we got there no one knew it had happpened only our lift (elevator) was evacuated and if it wasn't for the fact everone from the lift had stayed together I'm not sure they would've beleived these crazy English!

When we did get there the next day it was well worth it and I think better than the Empire for the views of the Park and I love the park....

the park from the Rock

After this we shared wonderful Pancakes and Cinamon toast at the cafe in the Rockafella Centre where the ice rink usually is in the winter, I don't know the name but it was great and the Orange Juice was served in fab glasses I want some of these!

OJ at the Rock Cafe

Then as we were in New York...we hit the Shops! well it would be rude not to......more next time!

Don't fence me in?

Its was a long weekend this weekend...like it's not a long weekend for me every weekend, I'm a lucky girl!

But because it was a long weekend EVERYONE was out back/ side or front BBQ - ing.
Why do I know this? because they don't have fences, nope, NO FENCES. Miles and miles of lawns all around and no fences, no front fences no back fences no inbetween back and front fences. NO FENCES!

Now I don't get this. Really if these houses with their double garages/ beautiful driveways/ manicured gardens and lawns were in England they would have dirty great fences on all sides, probably 6ft high fences, maybe with razor wire on the top, maybe with beautiful ivy climbing over them, but fences of some sort all the same.

These are the things that woulld freak me out if I had no fences:
how do you know whats yours?
how do you know what to mow?
what stops your kid from running away?
What stops your dog from running away?
what stops you dog running away with your kid?
where would they go? hem sorry...
what about people snooping around you back yard late at night, scary?
what about doggy poop from next door in your garden?

So why don't Americans have fences?
Maybe they just don't sell fences? I've never seen a fence shop thinking about it? but I'm not in the market for buying a fence.
maybe theres soooo much land over here people don't need to parcel it?
what would happen if you put up a fence would everyone follow?

The one good thing with no fence is the neighbors kid would't have to keep comming round to get his ball back.
the bad thing is ...the neighbors kid!

The other day we saw a house we really love, it was perfect the dream home, 5 beds, basement for the 'games room', an 'in out' drive, kitchen lounge diner all in one, all beds were ensuite, it had studio space & an office and beautiful manicured garden....gorgeous...but you know what would make it absolutely perfect?.....A FENCE!

meet dylan

Isn't he the cutest thing in the world and I'm missing him soooooo much, my sisters cat i had to leave behind in England, I would've brought him with me but Home land Securities may have had a problem with him, little illegal alien! oh yeah and my sister and bro-in-law would've HUNTED ME DOWN!

now i'm working on 'alright Jack' to see if i can get a kitty here BUT here are my problems:
I live in a second floor flat
we only have a years contract here in the US

So how would:
a) the little mite get out to use the bathroom/ play/ chase squirrels and generally do kitty things?
b) how would we get him back to the UK after the years contract is up? I'm not sure i could be parted from it for a 6 month quarantine?
c) if i had him as a house cat, then moved into a house with an outside, how would that fair? he would be totally freaked out surely?

Help I wanna house mate! to play hide and seek with like this little guy....

Hey A Check out your little guys in print!

New York the Adventure starts here...

So continuing from yesterday, I clear up all my stuff back home and hopped on a plane to New York, New York

My Adventure begins.

these are the places we visited:

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, we had limited time on our first day after an 8hr flight but wanted to show Mum the Park, from a good view, I had never been here before but my sister had, you make a donation at the entrance and head to the terrace then breathe in the views, i have seen the park many times in movies and a few times in the flesh but its still amazing, the difference of green lush then bricks. low and high rise I just love it there is nowhere like it anywhere else.

So when we get up there, there is a sculpture display on the Roof Garden by Jeff Koons: WOW just have a look at these wouldn't you just love to own one? The Display Runs till October 26th 2008, so Dad we'll take you x

Scary!

Okay so this is quite SCARY, I got the blog idea, I chose the name, deliberated some more then set it up,
I filled out my details, added a few more details, did a test blog, oh oh oh then I found that 'ask me a question' option and had a play with that, that was fun, and then I added a few more likes, checked out other peoples likes, was I being weird?...
OK no theres definately weirder people out there than me....... and now.......what do I actually write? something that makes sense.....Why am I here? in blogland?

The reason I decided to start a blog ... it started last December when we got THE CALL that is myself and "I'm alright Jack' ( an affectional term I use for my long term boyfriend)

THE CALL was a job offer in NY, this went on for months were we moving, we weren't moving limbo land, then it was all quiet, it was off.

Three weeks later I get a call from I'm alright Jack and its all on again only he's leaving on Thursday for NY (and todays happens to be Monday)

OMG!!! yup he left, guess who had to sort out the stuff back home? moi, AGAIN as this is not the first time we have ventured abroad Washington DC was the first time ( which i'll write about another time, loved that place!) oh yeah Glasgow oh the list is endless.
So these are the things I had to do in 4 weeks.....

Hand in Notice to Job, love my Job!
Hand in notice to Landlord (luckily the same person who was wonderful about both)
Empty joint Home, our Log Cabin on the lake boo hoo - rented to friends luckily for them and us

Empty shared rented place - my flatmates friends helped 6 strapping boys thanks very much! I nearly killed them at the Loft it had 4 flights of stairs and they had to move my Arco Lamp with a solid marble base! then when I get it back home it dropped from the trunk of the car onto my fathers foot....ouch! Oh well the injuries are getting better the last time he helped me move I reversed the 4x4 back and he was inbetween it and the wall!!!

Sell Jacks car - well we got it to a friend to sell it for us.
Sell my car - see above.

Do a car boot sale - which is like a garage sale I made £171. Not bad if I was selling crap but this was my life on sale and no matter how many people said "you have such unusual stuff" or " I love your stand" it still hurt when they paid 50p for a T-shirt I paid £70 for ouch it still hurts, but my Mum was pleased as I wasn't moving back as much stuff as I had before.

See all my friends, which I almost did but missed a few - sorry guys
Plead with my friend to have her Baby early....nope she came two days after I left!! but was a heathly baby girl.
Spend some time with my family - luckily 3 parts of the four were coming with me on the first part of our adventure over in New York.

Boy is that the time, I'm alright Jack needs me, will finish this tomorrow!

Big Love

test

this is just a test to get me started!
